Starting a Blog: Why Now & What Next?

Hi, I'm Mark Locker, founder and CEO of Attractions.io. We build technology that helps millions of visitors get more from their days out at theme parks, zoos, and other attractions. It's a fitting evolution of my childhood obsession — from spending countless hours crafting virtual theme parks in RollerCoaster Tycoon to building my first website at 12 years old, an Alton Towers fan club that grew to thousands of members. That early success led me to start DigiStylers, my own web hosting business, at age 13. And I've been building ever since.

Why now?

So, what prompted me to start a blog now? Honestly, it’s just a matter of timing. I’ve long told myself I should write more. I tend to think deeply, and writing is really just thinking on paper — it always helps me untangle my thoughts. But, as is often the case, other priorities kept pushing it down the list. Until now.

You see, one priority that has stayed at the top of the list is keeping up with emerging technologies — none more important than AI. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with how LLMs can support software development, and one of my test projects, you guessed it, is the very page you’re reading now!

I built this blog from scratch in under two hours, complete with pagination, search, tagging, and, most importantly… dark mode. And now? My excuse for not sharing my thoughts is officially gone.

What next?

Today marks a change. Not a dramatic one — I'm not planning to transform into a prolific writer churning out weekly articles. Instead, I'm creating a space where I can share my experiences and insights when they feel particularly worth sharing. A place where thoughts that usually dissipate alongside the steam in my morning shower can find a more permanent home.

The timing feels right. We're at an interesting intersection in the history of humanity. I feel like future generations will be looking back on these times, and what was written in them, with an incredible sense of fascination, such is what is about to unfold.

So, I look forward to ironing out my thoughts with you — and hopefully, providing some value along the way!
